Choosing a Safe and Professional BDSM Provider

A safe professional screens you, negotiates in writing beforehand, states their own limits plainly, is honest that BDSM carries risk, and treats aftercare as part of the work. Absence of screening is the clearest warning sign, not a convenience.

What good practice looks like

  • They screen you. Verification, a contactable phone or email, and a deposit are standard.
  • They negotiate before anything is scheduled, in a structured way.
  • They state their own hard limits without being asked.
  • They say plainly that BDSM is not risk-free.
  • They ask about health, medication and sobriety.
  • They plan aftercare and follow up afterwards.
  • Their pricing is clear, fixed and not tied to particular acts.

What should give you pause

  • No screening and no questions asked
  • Willingness to do anything, with no limits of their own
  • Pressure to decide quickly, or to book longer than you want
  • Vagueness about what is and is not on offer
  • Dismissiveness about risk, nerves or aftercare
  • Any suggestion that safewords are for people who are not serious

Questions worth asking

A professional will welcome all of these. If any of them irritate the person you are talking to, you have your answer.

  • How do you handle a first session with someone new?
  • What are your own limits?
  • What does your negotiation process involve?
  • What happens if I want to stop partway through?
  • What does aftercare look like with you?

Screening protects you too

Screening is often described as protection for the provider, which is only half true. A provider who screens carefully is also one who is not improvising, and who can be fully present rather than watchful.

Verification, discretion and secure handling of what you share.
