Consent and Safety
A hard limit is an absolute no. A soft limit is a maybe requiring care. A safeword is an agreed signal that changes or stops what is happening immediately. Together they give both people a reliable way to steer an experience in real time.

Clear communication shapes safe containers. Each signal is a single word, easy to remember and easy to say under pressure.
Deep in an experience, speech can become genuinely difficult. Hand signals cover that gap: open hands mean carry on, thumbs rotating up or down adjust intensity, closed fists mean pause until the hands open again.
If speaking is impossible altogether, opening and closing the hands repeatedly is the emergency stop. It is unmistakable and it does not rely on being heard.
Any environment where using a safeword carries a cost is not a safe one. Slowing down, stepping back or stopping is the system functioning exactly as intended, and it should be met with care rather than disappointment.
Signals, limits, health, sobriety and aftercare in one place.
