Online Versus In-Person BDSM Coaching

Online coaching is best for understanding desires, planning, negotiation practice and preparation, with no physical contact of any kind. In-person coaching is necessary for anything involving hands: pressure, pacing, reading a body and technique that cannot be described accurately in words.

What online coaching does well

  • Working out what you actually want, before spending anything on a session
  • Negotiation practice, including the awkward parts
  • Preparing for a first in-person experience
  • Debriefing an experience you have already had
  • Couples conversations that keep stalling at home
  • Access from outside New York City

What requires being in the room

Anything involving hands. Pressure is impossible to convey over video; so is the pace of a stroke, the timing of a pause, or the difference between contact that reassures and contact that alerts.

The same applies to sensual touch and bodywork instruction — it is a physical craft, learned physically.

A sensible sequence

Many people do both, in that order: an online conversation to find the shape of what they want, then an in-person session to learn or experience it.

Online sessions use a private link and are prepaid in full. Find somewhere you will not be interrupted, test your camera and connection beforehand, and arrive sober and on time.

Conversation-based coaching by private video call.
